School Curriculum

The educational programs at The Montessori School of Lorton were created with our children’s needs in mind: to mature and develop in a safe yet stimulating environment. Take a look below to learn more about each program.

Practical Life

When children begin school for the first time, they start with practical life activities which help develop their motor control and coordination.

These activities also develop independence and a sense of responsibility.

The activities are intentionally picked to directly prepare the children for life in helping them attain skills that are used daily in life.

Indirectly, they help develop the child's independence, social skills and intelligence, bringing about a sense of order and self-esteem.

Sensorial Activities

Sensorial activities within our Montessori program are designed to help the children notice, experience, and categorize sensory information all around them.

They are designed to help the children notice, experience, and categorize sensory information all around them.

Mathematics

The mathematics curriculum is designed intentionally to give the children an opportunity to talk, touch and experiment with the relevant mathematical concepts.

The children then gain ability to make estimation, quantification, identify

resemblances, thus enabling them to make sense of the world around them.

Language

Here students learn to read and to write. They use language materials to explore letters, sounds, and handwriting.

Cultural Learning

This is an area where children are exposed to a lot of knowledge about the world around them. They learn about the world, nature, people, and their culture. They also learn music and art.
